Do all security tags cause dye to come out when you take them off?

I have bought a dress today which I have to wear tonight. I've just put it on and realised th shop have left the security tag on. If I attempt to take it off will it cover they dress in dye?
no I didnt steal it!! I still have the reciept. i would take it back but i need to wear it tonight.

It depends on what kind of tag it is.

When I worked retail in a purse store, we had two different kinds of tags.
One was a dye tag, and one was an electronic tag.

The dye tags usually have a warning on the front saying that if you try to take it off, the dye will be expelled and ruin your garment.
The electronic tags are usually beige/light greyish beige and just pure plastic (with a chip inside). These can be forced off sometimes with pliers or clippers. It won't damage the garment, unless you accidently rip the dress when you're trying to pry it loose.

The easiest thing to do is to go to your closest mall or retail store and see if they have the tools to take it off (if the original store is too far away). Just be sure to bring your receipt. Even if it's not purchased at the store you go to, most stores won't do it unless you have proof of purchase (since they don't want to help people steal!). And even then, they may refuse to do it for you.
