When making a custom T-Shirt, is an expensive heat press really better than an iron?

I'm thinking about designing t shirts as a side hustle or side income just for fun and i was thinking about using the t shirt transfer papers from office depot and using photoshop cs4 extended version to design my t shirts, does it really make a difference if i use an expensive heat press or just a regular iron?

If you are really going to try to sell them I wouldn't try to make them yourself with transfer papers from Office Depot. It looks pretty amateur.
