Houstons Astros' infielder Aaron Boone announced on Wednesday that he is going to be submitted to an open heart surgery very soon and this could mean the end of his professional career in the MLB. Boone was submitted to some physical tests by the doctors of the Houston Astros, and they determined that his condition is not critical, but he has to get the surgery done; the sooner the better.

Boone knew from his condition since he was very young and the tests that were run at that time did not indicate that he needed the surgery in that moment; they discovered that he had a bicuspid aortic valve which is a congenital defect and means that he has two cusps instead of three to manage the flood of blood into the heart. This is not an emergency but the condition has been deteriorating; the tests results showed that and this is something that he has been dealing with trying to avoid a surgery, but now it's necessary. "Initially, my doctors thought I could delay corrective surgery for some time but because of some variations in my condition they are now advising me to deal with the problem sooner rather than later," Boone said."Am I going to recover well enough to play baseball again? Probably.

Will I play baseball again? I don't know at this time. We'll cross that bridge when we get there." The Houston Astros General Manager Ed Wade as well as manager Cecil Cooper knew about his condition and they both have been giving all of their support to Boone and they are all very concerned, including his teammates, who were in the conference room with Aaron to show him their support on this difficult time.

The 36-year-old player stated that he had no symptoms of the condition getting worse, but sooner or later he had to make the decision of having surgery. Aaron Boone started his professional baseball career with the Cincinnati Reds, where he was given a chance as a third baseman in 1998 along with his brother Bret Boone and two other brothers Stephen Larkin and Barry Larkin.

He stayed with the Reds until 2002. He was then hired by the New York Yankees, where he made history with the ninth best home run of all times on game 7 in the 11th inning, that gave the Yankees the victory over the Boston Red Sox in the 2003 ALCS.

In 2004 he was taken off the Yankee roster when he got injured playing a basketball game, violating the contract that he had. The Yankees wanted to re-contract him in 2005 but instead he signed a two year deal with the Cleveland Indians. Later on he signed a contract with the Florida Marlins in 2006 for one year, and afterwards he signed a deal with the Washington Nationals in 2007. He finally signed a deal with the Houston Astros in 2008. Boone, all All-Star in 2003, has a career .264 batting average with 126 home runs and 555 RBIs over 11 seasons with five different clubs.
