Roll forming, often called open-section forming, uses successive sets of roller dies to bend a strip of steel progressively until the desired shape is achieved. This process is very similar to traditional tube - and pipe making, but differs in that it can form more complicated sections.

Roll formed sections have an advantage over extrusions of a similar shapes. Roll formed parts are generally much lighter and stronger, having been work hardened in a cold state. Another advantage is that the part can be made having a finish or already painted. Labor is greatly reduced since volume is a major consideration for choosing the roll forming process.

Roll forming lines can be set up with multiple configurations to punch and cut off parts in a continuous operation. For cutting a part to length, the lines can be set up to use a pre-cut die where a single blank runs through the roll mill, or a post-cut die where the profile is cutoff after the roll forming process. Features may be added in a hole, notch, embossment, or shear form by punching in a roll forming line.

Both roll forming and tube and pipe forming involve bending steel with roller dies, with each pair of rolls working the strip progressively until the desired shape is achieved. How roll forming differs is that it lends itself well to prepunching, midpiercing, and postpunching all inline, as well as sweeping before cutoff.

Although the processes are similar and some of the equipment may be the same, there are differences in the design of a roll formed section and the tooling needed and in the layout and setup of the machine.

Process:

The process of roll forming is one of the simpler manufacturing processes. It begins with a large spool of metal strips, usually between 1 in. and 20in. in width, and 0.004 in. and 0.125 in. thick. This is held by a device called a dispenser. The metal strip is then unrolled and fed into a machine starting with the stock feeder which is connected to the cutoff attachment. After the cutoff attachment, the metal strip is fed into the forming rolls. These mating die-set rolls are constructed to form the desired shape in stages sequentially by means of various shaped rolls. The layout of these rolls can be flower shaped as mentioned previously, progressive upper/lower rolls, side rolls, or as overhung spindle rolls.

Setting up a roll forming line requires the expertise of a skilled roll form designer and cooperation between the vendor and manufacturer in developing a successful product. But with the right preparation, the transition can be painless. Carefully choosing the proper equipment, skillfully designing the product and tooling, properly training the operators, and adequately maintaining the production line make roll forming easier.

Roll Forming a Tube:

Now let's roll form the same 2-in.-diameter tube with prepunching. The process requires 10 passes before the welding station, because a typical roll former doesn't have idler stands. Tube and pipe mills use idlers between almost every pass to assist in forming the round. These idlers help form the strip, feed the steel into the next pass, and stabilize the section as it goes through the mill. Most roll forming does not require idlers but typically uses many more passes to make a tube. Also, a tube mill may be required to run several hundred feet a minute, but a roll former, especially one with prepunching, can never attain those speeds. With a few exceptions, most roll formers, especially those prepunching steel, run much slower than tube mills.

Roll forming the tube is described best as a progressive edge form, high oval without idlers. The strip is formed from the outside using an over formed radius on the first pass of about 15 degrees. The second pass forms the next 15 degrees, allowing the first pass work to relax, and then continuing using this type of forming method, allowing the high oval to stay in the sides.

I have no direct experience of Turbo Smooth. I'd suggest your convert your extruded line into an Editable Mesh, set up its smoothing groups and then use Mesh Smooth on it.

No public speaker should ever forget this important fact!

"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."  You have most likely heard that quote before, and it is true.  If you are a speaker who wants to be a dynamic and exceptional communicator, then you need to start putting this into practice.  Before you can "own the stage", you have to "work the room".

Most speakers take the stage at a disadvantage; our audience does not know us.  The credibility we have is earned, not given.  Unless you are a big-name speaker, or are addressing a crowd you have addressed before, you usually will not have the luxury of having your audience already know you, trust you and believe in you.  Thus, taking them to place of decision and action is more challenging.  So, if you are in that position (as most of us are), then you need to learn how to work the room before you take the stage.  Here are some things to keep in mind as you learn to work the room:

1.      Meet as many people as you can before you take the stage.  Too many speakers use the stage to introduce themselves to their listeners.  Of course there is nothing wrong with opening up and letting your audience know more about you, but this is a very important point you need to get: if you can get your audience to know who you are before you take the stage, you will be a step ahead of all the speakers who do not take the time.  This is something far too many presenters overlook.  Sure, as a speaker you're busy, but you must make time for the people you have been hired to serve.  Do your preparing before you arrive to your location.  Don't hide out in a room somewhere waiting to be introduced.

If you come across as friendly and personable on stage, but are a distant and reclusive off stage, people will question how much you really care about the needs of your audience, and it will be more difficult for you to "sell yourself" during your presentation.  So introduce yourself to as many people as you can before you take the stage.

2.      Learn to remember people's names.  There is nothing sweeter to our ears than our own name.  When you can remember someone's name, you validate that person, making them feel important.  And can I tell you why this is so important?  People who know how to make others very important are people who are always in demand because we are attracted to that kind of person.  It's called charisma.  It is that thing within a person that makes other people want to be around them.  Learn to remember the names of everyone you meet and you will find yourself much more popular and a lot more effective on stage.

3.      Ask people questions about themselves...and actually listen to their answers.  Those who have mastered the fine art of listening are typically thought of as great conversationalists, and very wise people.  Have you ever noticed that?  You can speak to someone, have hardly anything to say, but ask a lot of questions about them, and that person will walk away from the conversation thinking you are a lot deeper than you actually are.  It's strange, I know, but it's true.  Try it out sometime.  Better yet, do it the next time you are to give a speech.  The next time you are working the room, take time for people and really listen to them.  You'll be amazed how much it will help your presentation on stage.

Not only can you help your speech, you might just help someone else in the process.  An unbelievable amount of people in our world struggle with loneliness, so taking the time to show affection and care for someone who is lonely can do wonders for them.  Max Lucado wrote, "To the loved, a word of affection is a morsel, but to the love-starved, a word of affection can be a feast."   Make it your mission to give feasts. 

4.      Make yourself available AFTER the speech, as well.  Although it may not help you during your presentation, it could help you get booked for other speaking engagements.  When people (especially event planners) can tell that you care enough to "hang out" with the people, it makes a good impression on them, and makes you very likeable.  There are hundreds of speakers that don't make time for the people before or after the presentation.  Be different.  Show you care.  Get to know people before and after.  It will make a difference in your "repeat" and referral business.

5.      Interact with your audience during the presentation. Sometimes being a platform speaker makes it difficult to personally interact with your audience.  But when those opportunities present themselves, embrace them, because a speaker who can interact from the stage adds a dimension that many cannot copy.  This is especially true if you have a good sense of humor and are quick on your feet.  If you can make your audience laugh when they know it is not rehearsed, that is powerful, and you can really captivate a crowd.  You'll have them on the edge of their seat just waiting to see what you are going to say or do next.

If you really want to become an exceptional speaker and a dynamic communicator, you need to learn to connect with your audience before and after your speech, not just during.  If you are going to own the stage, you must first learn how to work the room.

Please allow me to explain the Chia Seed to you. You may have already heard of Chia, in the form of a Chia Pet. So you may be saying to yourself "Sure, these sound healthy, but what does this have to do with my most delicious brownie recipe?" That's the next step, and one of the unique features of Chia. Chia Gel Recipe:
1 tbsp dry Chia seeds
9 tbsp filtered water (or other liquid)
Stir together the Chia and water with a fork, to prevent clumping. Leave the mixture alone for 10-15 minutes on the counter top. When you return, the bowl or glass will not be full of water any more. Instead, you will see a thick gelatin, with the seeds suspended inside. It will slide, but not pour. You've turned 1 tablespoon of seeds into 9 tablespoons of useful gel. This is Chia Gel, and it can be used instead of butter or oil in recipes.

Chia gel is as easy to use as butter or oil. It will keep for 1 week in a covered container in the refrigerator. (if you don't cover it, it will dry up) Simply scoop the gel with a tablespoon measure, and add it to your recipes just as you would butter.

Why does it work so well?
Chia Seeds don't have any flavor of their own. Instead, they take on the taste of whatever you add them to, and distribute that flavor. In that way, they can actually amplify flavors, and make your cooking even MORE delicious! Like a magnet, I was drawn to the colorful websites - filled with stacks of hundred dollar bills and shiny red sports cars parked in driveways of million dollar mansions with kids splashing in the swimming pools . There are places where eclipses occur in which the bodies are not the right size to do just as the earth's moon does.

For instance, when Phobos causes annular eclipses on Mars, it cannot cover more than 60% of the sun. On Jupiter and the other three outer planets, the correspondence is not exact either.

In the distant past of earth, the moon was closer, and eclipses then lasted hours. Many years in the future, as the moon slides away due to the effect of the tides, there will no longer be any total eclipses of the moon.

If it were true that Someone designed the moon to be at just its current distance from the earth, such that people today marvel at the precision, then what of those in the distant future? Will they lament that if only the Designer had thought to put the moon just a wee bit closer, there might be such a thing as a total eclipse?

As I look at it, there have to be at least some coincidences out there. The moon's distance in the current era likely is one of them.

I don't think the moon-sun correspondence is really so exact that one could consider it truly unbelievable. Sometimes the moon is a bit closer to earth, sometimes farther. When it's farther, we have an annular eclipse. That's nothing special.

I don't see the current distance of the moon from the earth, varying as it does, as anything resembling, say, the truly remarkable proportions of the Anthropic Principle. The moon's distance from earth during its eccentric orbit varies by as much as 27,000 miles. Some of the distances in that range happen to produce total eclipses. An interesting coincidence, perhaps, but hardly miraculous.
