Will changing my clubs really make any difference?
I have a set of fitted Titleist DCI 981 irons,a Ping G5 driver and a Callaway 4 wood.I play off a solid 14 and have always been curious with the so called 'game improvement' irons and all the talk about 'greater loft',more 'feel' and all the press about the newest products and what they can do to my game.
My question is....even though my clubs are 10 years old,my driver and 4 wood being second hand and a bit knocked about,I still play well and love the feel of my irons...so,will buying a new set(I like the look of the G15 irons)really make that much difference to my game or will plane old practise be my best route to a lower h/cap. Im sure,were I a tour player,then the difference would be a marked one,but Im not so Im not sure if it is worth the expense for the new irons or should I just get back to the range.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
At a 14, you'd be better off spending the cash on lessons from a good pro. They'd be sure to knock more strokes off your score than buying new sticks. I think iron technology has changed very little in the last 10 years. Now, if you had a 10 year old driver, that's a different story. The G5 is a decent club, I'd stick with it, assuming you're not hitting an 8 degree with X-Stiff shaft!
