Sunshine Coast, October 25, 2009 – With less than two months to go before the UN Climate Change Conference, the leaders of most countries are a worried lot. Firstly, before the meeting starts, they have to find a green power source or pay hefty fines that could cripple their economies that are already reeling under the global recession. Secondly, they have to find a sustainable long term solution to the looming global threat that climate change poses. Such a move would have disastrous financial and economic consequences. For one thing, millions of people depend on the coal and oil industries for their livelihood. For another, other commercial activity would come to a grinding halt without electricity [that is needed in homes and factories] and gasoline/diesel [needed for transportation and other activities].

Under the Kyoto Protocol, emission targets could be met in several ways, including more fuel efficient cars, less coal-fired power plants, etc. Another method is called voluntary carbon offsets that allow governments to pay for projects that mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions. However, these are inadequate solutions. They only reduce the carbon price whereas the need of the hour is to deploy clean renewable energy sources to replace fossil fuels.

This is where EcoEnforcers' urban renewable energy solutions actually help increase available energy supply while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions. The black finish isn't really supposed to rust like a raw finish. It should stay black for the most part. I have the same wedges and I know that they do rust a bit in places, but they aren't supposed to.

That said, if you want to rust it, what I have done in the past is get the entire club head wet and cover it in salt. Then get a soaking wet towel or rag and pour salt all over it. Then wrap the clubhead with the wet salty towel and just let it sit. You might want to put it in a plastic bag just to keep it wet longer, but leave the bag open cuz it needs air to rust.

Maybe once or twice a day I take the towel off and re-wrap it, just to make sure it all gets it good. Just don't wrap it too tight cuz you want air to be able to get in.

When you first take the towel off it might look kind of green, but don't worry, it will look normal as soon as it dries.

Do this for a couple of days it will get the rust going good, but it still takes a long time for the whole thing to get a good solid coat of rust on it. The water and salt help and speed it up, but other than that you just have to wait.

But again, I wouldn't do that with the black wedges cuz they are supposed to be black. Wedges that are supposed to rust don't have any finish on them.

Ask Questions

If you worry that you are not good at holding a conversation, just become really good at asking questions. This way you are helping to steer the conversation in a way that the other person is doing most of the talking.

Be sure to listen carefully as the other person is talking as what they say will likely open the door for you to ask more follow up questions.

Prepare For Your Departure

One part of a conversation that many shy people find awkward is the departure. Practice what you will say when wrapping up a conversation. It does not have to be anything witty. Just try something simple like, Well, it has been great talking to you. I hope to see you again sometime.

Practice saying those words so that when it comes time to make your exit, you will know exactly what to say.

Defeating shyness is important to make sure that your shy nature does not impede on the quality of your life. If you find yourself avoiding social situations then it is time to get to work to overcome those feelings so that you get out there and make the most of your life.

An electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) replaces the traditional paper chart for patients. It's believed that health care facilities that use EHR systems deliver more efficient and higher quality care. In today's digital age, electronic medical records are certainly the wave of the future. However, proponents of universal adoption are still frustrated by the rate at which they are being implemented.  According to a study just released by the National Center for Health Statistics, only 38.4% of physicians reported using a full or partial EMR system. This data is similar to what the Commonwealth Fund reported this year, that only 28% of physicians in the United States use an EMR (compared to 89% in Britain, and 98% in the Netherlands).

 EMR supporters hope that increased involvement by the government will help speed things along. President-elect Barak Obama has endorsed EMRs, and their adoption is a key part of his $50 billion dollar health care reform plan. In a radio address on December 6th,  President-elect Obama stated, "We will make sure that every doctor's office and hospital in this country is using cutting edge technology and electronic medical records so that we can cut red tape, prevent medical mistakes, and help save billions of dollars each year."

 President-elect Obama has also appointed former-Senator Tom Daschle as Secretary of Health and Human Services. He also intends to nominate Daschle to lead a new White House Office of Health Reform, with Jeanne Lambrew as his deputy. This is encouraging because the two co-authored (with Scott Greenberger) a groundbreaking book on health care reform titled Critical: What We Can Do About the Health Care Crisis. One of the main ideas Daschle and Lambrew present (and show support of) is the adoption of EMRs.

 Even before the election, government support of EMRs was brewing. In September of 2008, Representative Peter Stark (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Health subcommittee, introduced the Health-e Information Technology Act of 2008.  The bill requires the government to create standards for an interoperable electronic health record system, and to create such a system by a certain date. It includes incentives to drive the adoption of such a system, as well as measures to protect the privacy of patients.

 No doubt, this is a massive undertaking requiring an enormous amount of resources. One positive is that the government won't have to start from scratch. Other countries have successfully implemented similar systems, and there is company right here on U.S. soil leading this initiative. If an EMR is to provide a comprehensive solution for today's practice environment, there must be an integrated set of clinical and practice management applications. The product should streamline workflow efficiency, improve adherence to treatment standards, provide detailed financial practice analysis, enhance patient education and interaction, and optimize compliance with regulatory and managed care guidelines. e-MDs, a software company based in  Austin, TX, is one of the only companies that currently provides such a comprehensive medical management software, with their revolutionary Solution Series.

Any kayak that claims to do both whitewater and touring is not going to do both well. Touring boats are designed to go fast and straight. Whitewater kayaks are designed for maneuverability. The ideal thing is to get one kayak for touring _and_ one kayak for whtiewater. If you can't do that, look for a kayak that will satisfy your needs most of the time and then rent or borrow when you need something else.

As for the kayaks your considering, it might be possible to camp out of the Everest, but you'll have to pack lightly. Maybe you can pack a tent (or maybe just a bivy sack). The food and kitchen items you pack would have to be very simple, as well as any extra clothing. Since you say touring with only occasional whitewater, I probably wouldn't recommend it.

As for the fusion, that might work, but again it won't be perfect. It's only about 10 feet long, which isn't very big for touring. If you're looking at doing a lot of multi-day trips, you'll probably want a longer, faster boat (with the bonus that it holds more gear). Don't worry about the boat "only" handling Class III rapids. If you're only doing whitewater occasionally, Class III will keep you busy for a long time.
