Tiger Woods, golf's greatest, hasn't been able to win any of the last four major tournaments he has participated in. The player, who has faced doubts since his knee surgery last year, has won several victories this year, but has apparently lost his touch in the past weeks. The prize seemed the primary motivation for another top player, Phil Mickelson, who is on the road towards becoming Player of the Year. Mickelson, however, isn't the only one aiming for votes from his fellow players. Woods is also looking at Player of the Year; with five wins under his belt, he has a chance. "Playing well at the end of the year in the big events, that can swing votes, because usually guys remember what you've done later in the year," Woods said. However, the final challenge for the FedEx Cup will not be an easy one, not for Wood or any other golfer. The course, Liberty National, is located near Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, and was chosen for its picturesque scenery. The very controversial switchblade knife has been around a very long time. This blade is the size and shape of most of you average pocket knives but with a  twist.  With the push of a button a spring pops the blade out and is ready to be used.  There are two sorts of switchblades one opens though the top, and one from the side.

The blade that opens from the side is much like other pocket knives. You push the button and the blade swings out the side like any other knife. The out-the-front or the OTF switchblade, pops out the front as the name suggest. Now there are two different types of OTF blades a single and double action. The single action is when you push the button and the blade pops out and then you have to manually push the blade back in. The double action is the same this the different of that to put the blade back in you just push the button again. These knives have been at the center of controversy for years, because of the popularity with criminals. People that might want to brake the law like these knives for there very quick opening systems.

The concept  of these  spring loaded blades have been around for many years. With examples of them appearing on flintlock pistols and on coach guns as early as 1700s. Then later in 1790s being made a more offered tool. Many of the early examples switchblades are either English, of French.

Right after the civil war in America knife production was industrialized.  That is when the first American switchblade was made. It is called the Korn Patent knife. These blades really took off in the 1890s and where even soled to lady's to put in there sewing kits. Then Italian makers got in to the switchblade game and that is where we get the knives called Stilettos.

Later street gangs started to use these knives and  there started the bad name for switchblades.  People started to think that if they put a ban on them that it would stop gang violence. The US congress chose to make these knives illegal. So in the 1960s switchblades that where made in America where only being soled to the military. Later knife makers found away around these laws by selling switchblades in build it your self kits. Now though this loophole is closed in many states.

The legality of these knives differs for country to country. Although many country's banned them and many more have very strict laws, you can carry them in some country's.  In the United States you can not carry them on federal lands, Indian reservations, military bases, or Washington DC. The Act that limits switchblades also limits Ballistic knives. But other then that the federal government leaves the rest of the decision making to the individual states.

In many states the are out right illegal, and in some they are perfectly legal. Then there are a few that they are legal but with some guide lines. In Missouri, Montana, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas they are illegal, but exceptions are made for antiques and collectors. In Virginia you can own one but you can't sell one. In Rhode Island you can own one but it can't have a dagger, dirk, or stiletto blade. In Ohio you can have one but you have to buy it though a online retailer. In New York you and have one but only if you have a hunting or fishing license.  So of these laws are pretty out there but to each there own.

The History of the Squeegee
A squeegee is a tool with a flat and smooth rubber blade. It was first used as a wooden bladed tool with long handles by fishermen to scrape fish blood, scales, and to push water off the boat deck.

During the 20th century, people needed a more efficient tool for cleaning windows. That's when the window squeegee was invented. The first squeegee used by the professional window cleaners was a heavy "Chicago squeegee". It is a bulky tool with two heavy rubber blades and 12 screws.

Then in 1936, an Italian immigrant invented a squeegee that is still known, widely used, and one of the best squeegees. His name is Ettore Steconne. He migrated to the US in 1921. He then chose window cleaning as his profession.

Since the tools he used where heavy and bulky, he decided to create a better and lighter squeegee made of brass handle and a single sharp rubber blade. He first named it as NEW DEAL. And as the time went on, it took a new name, the ETTORE master.

Types of Squeegees
There are different types of squeegees:
1. Window Squeegee (the most popular)
2. Floor Squeegees (mostly used in hospitals)
3. Silk Screen Squeegees
4. Stiff Blade Squeegees (used in applying grouts to tiles)
5. Horse Scraper (used on horses to remove sweat from its coat, similar to the window squeegee but with an arched blade.)

3. As you wipe along, clean the rubber blades with a lint free cloth.
4. Then clean the window with a cleaning cloth, recommended is a chamois cloth.

Remember, check to see if the materials you are going to use has no defects. A poorly made squeegee can scratch your window, which can cause you tons of money. The Fuji bike has a Carbon seatstays. Better technology compared to the Specialized. The carbon seatstays help dampen the road vibrations as Carbon absorbs vibrations really well without loosing the stiffness.

The Specialized doesn't have carbon seatstays, which is cheaper to do for the manufacturer.
Alloy frames tend to rattle and chatter while riding. Way to solve this is they put a carbon fork and seatpost. Fuji also did this too.
The Fuji is a 105 groupset but instead of a 105 rear derailleur, they add a Ultegra rear derailleur. Ultegra better in reliability and weight.

The Specialized has a cheaper crankset. It's just called a Shimano Compact. Meaning it isn't even a 105, or Tiagra and Sora. (These two names are lower quality than 105)
The Fuji has a FSA integrated crankset, so it should be better than the Specialized crankset.

Hands down the Fuji wins. It offers a better drivetrain, better frame (meaning the Carbon seatstays). That alone is already 3-5 steps more the trouble and advanced for Fuji than it is for Specialized.
They both are in the same price range so it's even a better bargain.

I am currently playing a hi bore XL driver, three wood, and two hybrids the 3 and 4...was playing ping G5 woods and driver and liked the Cleveland's better... you should demo them (as you would any club) before investing in them... you might find that you automatically dont need a 3 and 5, but that other clubs will suit you better...they now make a XL 2 wood with a lot of loft that is pretty good, and you might want to fill the distance voids with clubs that better suit your swing and feel more than just buying the 3 and 5 because that's what you think you need...also...dont be foreign to the idea of hitting different brand clubs (mixing and matching) as some will feel better in your hands at the different weights, lengths,and lofts to swing at different distances on the course... good luck!

Misconceptions

To add even more confusion to the mix, its important to notice that a variety of website design effects have also been referred to as being Web 2.0. For example, rounded corners and drop shadows are two often used elements used and described as being Web 2.0. The problem with that is that rounded corners and drop shadows certainly do not encourage interactivity. When was the last time you had a drop shadow ask you for your opinion? If you are having conversations with rounded corners then you should probably be reading a totally different article entirely.

Perhaps, this misconception of Web 2.0 as being a style is related to AJAX technology (AJAX allows a web page to request an update for parts of its content, and then to alter those parts in your web browser without needed to refresh the whole page each time) and also DHTML (often found in drop down menus.) While these fantastic technologies will allow a designer to create user friendly websites that work extremely well with a Web 2.0 application, they are certainly not required.

Getting Your Child Off The X Box and Into The Game

Today I walked into Sidleterra, a place of wonder and imagination where children don't just watch an adventure, they live it. Upon arrival we entered the "Gate of Destiny" and were greeted with a loud "Huzzah!". Gwen (age 12) stated, "It's like we stepped back in history! It's weird, but a totally awesome kind of weird." Actually, Sidleterra is the Wizards and Warriors sleep-away summer camp, where children get to be the heroes of their own stories. The site is a re-creation of a medieval village, tucked away in Charlton, MA.

It's hard to find summer or after school activities that children enjoy which don't involve TV or video games. The Guard Up Family Fencing and Swordsmanship school of Burlington, MA, runs afterschool programs, classes, overnight and day camps including Wizards and Warriors. In this stimulating environment children get plenty of physical activity, opportunities for social development and fun, intellectual challenges. Their imaginations come alive as they choose to be warriors, wizards, healers, and so on and develop the history and personas of their characters. Every part of the camp is designed to meet the individual needs of the campers. Those who are combat fans can bound headlong into battle with foam swords swinging. One camper stated, "I prefer to use the mind as a weapon, not the body." He and his like minded friends can take an alternative approach as a healer or scout. There is room for all. The motto, "Honor, Courage and Compassion" teaches the kids to understand that courage is not only about bravely going into battle, but also knowing when to honor their own feelings.

In this setting, kids hone their executive functioning skills without even knowing it. In Alchemy, for example, they use deductive reasoning to combine potion ingredients. Organization and attentional skills are constantly relied on as they seek clues, solve puzzles, and develop strategies to defeat monsters and villains. As one parent put it, "It promotes organization, initiation, and communication; all the things we want him to be able to do at school. It teaches critical thinking. Thinking out of the box is promoted and encouraged."

Participating in mock battles, kids get a cardio workout and enhance their balance and coordination. "It's a place to be creative and physical and not have to be competitive", remarked the parent of one day-camper. At night they return exhausted, but happy after a full day. This is a huge bonus, as research has shown that excessive TV or computer time can impair sleep, while physical activity has been shown to enhance it.

Campers also work on social skills as they plan, negotiate, build alliances and enlist aid from others. Morgan Kuberry, the director of the day camp, states that many of the children's goals have nothing to do with martial arts, but are actually more focused on improving social skills. Playing a character gives the kids the freedom to try out new things in a supportive environment.

Most importantly, what do the kids think? Every hero I talked to had similar things to say. When asked what they liked best, most said, "Everything!"

Adam, age 13 exclaims, "It's so awesome! I love being imaginative. We even get to make armor!"

John, age 11, who has gone to several other camps, says he loves Wizards and Warriors camp much more. "It's fantasy. It lets you use your imagination. Instead of having to sit around all day, you're getting up and running around. It's awesome!"

Evan, age 9 states, "I love it! It helps me get my energy out. I like being with people that have the same interests as me. I fit in here."

Two young maiden sisters agreed: "It's great!" Although, neither of them had been at sleep away camp they both quickly fell in love with Wizards and Warriors.

Besides being fun and exciting there is a deeper layer of benefits that lie beneath the surface. The physical and mental advantages of dramatic play are clearly indicated by over forty years of research findings.

There are many great forms of enjoyable physical activity. One impressive point about Guard Up is that the staff is trained in "Positive Coaching"; The focus on winning is secondary to learning life lessons through activity. At the end of one skirmish, I watched a counselor process with the kids what they did well and what they could work on further. The kids recognized the importance of teamwork and said they would have been more successful if they stayed together and communicated.

As an Occupational Therapist, I am very aware of the power of meaningful activity in physical and mental development. As a mom, it's a pleasure to watch these kids so completely engaged in body and mind. Without a doubt, we are fortunate that programs like this are available for our children!
